Robert Szustkowski is demanding more than PLN 50 million from Ringier Axel Springer Polska for violation of his good name.
Robert Szustkowski, a well-known entrepreneur and philanthropist, has sent a demand to Ringier Axel Springer Polska publishing house for damages in excess of PLN 50 million. This is a consequence of the publisher’s failure to fulfill the terms of a settlement agreement signed in 2020 and the violation of Szustkowski’s good name by press publications.
According to Robert Szustkowski’s attorney, attorney Elzbieta Kosinska-Kozak of the Dubois and Partners law firm, the summons for such a high amount is probably the largest property claim in Poland related to a press publisher’s violation of his good name. – “The basis for the summons is the publisher’s delay in implementing the out-of-court settlement and the contractual penalty provided for in the settlement,” – Kosinska-Kozak explains.
The settlement in question was reached in October 2020 after a favorable, though not final, ruling by the District Court in Warsaw for Szustkowski. At the time, that court ruled that publications by Ringier Axel Springer Polska on portals such as www.fakt.pl, www.onet.pl and www.newsweek.pl contained false information that harmed Szustkowski’s good name and dignity. Among these allegations were claims about the businessman’s alleged links to Russian special services and criminal groups, as well as insinuations about his connection to the tape affair and Marek Falenta.
