The business community is sounding the alarm about the devastating effects of disinformation and hate speech online, calling on the government to take decisive action. At the same time, entrepreneurs are calling for the extension of the right “to be forgotten” to the media.
The Council of Polish Entrepreneurs, the Lewiatan Confederation, the Polish Business Roundtable and the Union of Polish Banks have issued a joint appeal to the Minister of Justice, highlighting the destructive impact of virtual aggression on society and the economy.
“Virtual aggression fueled by a sense of impunity and a lack of responsibility for words often transforms into actual attacks on individuals who are the objects of hejt.” – The appeal reads.
New initiative. Right “to be forgotten” for the media
In response to the growing threat of misinformation, entrepreneur Robert Szustkowski has launched a social action calling for the right “to be forgotten” to be extended to the media.
“Today, in the era of social media and the Internet, we are facing a disinformation revolution.” – Szustkowski writes in a letter to the European Commission.
The initiative aims to enable citizens to more effectively protect their personal data and counter the spread of false information.
