Personal experiences and consequences of false accusations

Robert Szustkowski, a well-known philanthropist and businessman, appeals for the introduction of new rules for protecting personal image in the European Union. His initiative stems from personal experiences, where he was the subject of false accusations and disinformation, which negatively affected his professional and social reputation. Szustkowski emphasizes that attributing unfounded accusations to someone, such as unclear connections with Russian agents or organized crime, can lead to serious consequences, comparing it to “business death”.

Proposals to extend the “Right to be forgotten”

After many years of court proceedings that cleared him of all suspicions, Szustkowski continues to experience persecution from some media outlets. In response to these experiences, he proposes extending the “Right to be forgotten” to the media, which would allow individuals to request the removal of outdated or false information from Internet search engines.

Readers’ Rights Ombudsman Mechanism

In addition, Szustkowski suggests creating a Readers’ Rights Ombudsman mechanism that would allow accused persons to present their version of events and request corrections or editorial notes to materials. Its aim is to introduce standards of transparency and responsibility in the media and to protect the rights and dignity of individuals.

Priority of protecting individual rights in the EU

Szustkowski emphasizes that in the face of growing challenges related to disinformation and external threats, the European Union should prioritize protecting individual rights. Introducing new rules for protecting personal image can contribute to a more balanced and just society in the EU.
